3 Signs That It’s Time for Water Heater Repairs

If your water heater has been giving you problems, it’s probably time to schedule a repair appointment. If you haven’t had any water heater maintenance in the last several years, it’s even more important to make a service appointment now.

Just give us a call for water heater repair in Chambersburg, PA. We can help, no matter what is wrong with your water heater. You can also keep reading to learn about three common signs that can indicate something is wrong with your water heater and you need to schedule service ASAP.

1. Rust and Corrosion

It only takes a tiny bit of corrosion to allow rust to begin developing in or on your water heater. If you notice rust on a small component, we may be able to replace it to protect the rest of your water heater. However, if the inside of your tank corrodes and rust begins, it cannot be reversed.

If you have rust and do not replace your tank, eventually you will notice that your water is discolored because of the rust. Additionally, it will begin to eat holes through your water heater and impact operation as the rust spreads.

Preventing these problems can be as simple as scheduling annual water heater maintenance for us to check out your tank each year. If you haven’t been investing in the service, you can get started now with your existing water heater or your new install installation if you end up needing one.

2. Loud Sounds

This can be a little bit more difficult to identify since you may not always be near your water heater when it is operating. If possible, spend some time each month standing near your water heater so you can listen when it heats up. If you hear a sound that could be described as popping or kettling, you likely have hard water buildup.

If your water heater has not been flushed out in the past couple of years, it’s a good idea to have our team do that now. Otherwise, the abrasive minerals left behind by hard water can cause the corrosion that we mentioned above. Plus, the minerals from hard water can block the heating element so that your water does not get as hot as it should.

3. Inconsistency

Unusual temperature fluctuations can mean that your water heater is nearing the end of its life. It may not be as effective at heating the water, resulting in hot and cold spots inside of the tank or lukewarm water temperature overall.

You may be tempted to just write these problems off as a fluke that happens once in a while, but the bottom line is that you should never have issues with water temperature. If you do, it’s a problem worth addressing. Ignoring inconsistent water temperatures can leave you without hot water at all if your water heater stops working completely.
